Salman Khan’s Dabangg is again composed by Sajid-Wajid and this time they are back with a big league of singers comprising of Sukhwinder Singh, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. Here is the song list of the movie. As per reports and common sense both, Tere Mast do nain is the one to watch out for.
This is something rare. The music is out, but then I couldn’t find the CDs as yet, neither the music was there on Nokia Music Store, so I couldn’t buy it from there either. And then, it wasn’t there for free download. So I’m writing a review based on the 30 seconds Preview tracks I could find.
The first track of the album is a well known, typical Himesh Reshammiya thing, Kuch to baaki hai. The song is a slow, nostalgic, painful one, something like Humko Deewana kar gaye title track. Not bad, at least after a long break as I haven’t heard this type of a song for quite some time now.

Sona Mahapatra has an excellent voice, but then it’s such a different from a usual female singer’s voice. Probably that’s the major reason she doesn’t get to sing huge number of songs despite her talent. But then, when she gets something that suits her voice, you certainly get to hear something good. This time there happens something like that as Sona and Shreya Ghoshal come together to sing Bahara in IHLS.
Bahara is a light romantic song with medium pace and a touch of folk in the background. In fact, if I were to tell the composer for the song, I would probably have named Rahman.

Vishal-Shekhar’s I Hate Love Stories had been a long expected album, at least for me. And I guess they have done it. Bin tere, I hate Love stories, and Sadka kiya, I’m loving it.
The album starts with Jab Mila tu, which is quite like Dostana’s Jaane Kyun. That way, the song cannot be called very fresh but sounds fine, and will be stuck to our tongues the way Jaane kyun did. I think.
The second song of the album is one of the best, or probably the best, Bin Tere (how many songs are called Bin tere, any idea?). Well, the song, sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan and Sunidhi Chauhan is a wonderful piece of music and definitely worth a listen. Go for it.
The third song of the album is a peppy title song, bas pyaar ka naam na lena, I hate love stories, sung by Vishal Dadlani. Very, very tongue sticking,though I don’t think it’s one for longer times.
Bahara is the next song of the album. The song came as a surprise to me as I had not expected Sona Mahapatra in a Vishal-Shekhar album. I wonder if she has ever worked with the duo. Well, Sona is not the only singer in the song, in fact she is more in the background while the song is actually sung by Shreya Ghoshal. A medium-fast-paced song with a touch of folk. Definitely a good one again.
They had one king of rock with them. But they brought in another one. Yes, Vishal Shekhar call in Suraj Jagan for their next number Sadka Kiya, with Mahalaxmi Iyer. Frankly, Sadka is probably the song I have loved the most till date and the more I am listening to it, the more I am falling into the song. A song that keeps itself light, has beats something like Falak tak (Tashan), with Suraj going high in places, in a way that you would love. The best part, on top of the wonderful music and singing, there are those great lyrics, sadka kiya yoon ishq ka, ke sar jhuka jahan, deedar hua. M lovin’it.
If this was not enough, here is more in remixes, no, reprises and mixes and remixes. The first to come up is Shekhar with a reprise of Bin Tere. Now there’s only a guitar (I hope I didn’t miss anything) and Shekhar’s voice. A real reprise, with hardly any background music. One of the toughest and the best things Shekhar has done. Kudos boy.
Now, a chill mix, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan singing what Shreya and Sona sang earlier. Definitely good work by Rahat and worth listening to song, but I think I have fallen for the original version already.
At the end there is a remix version of Bin Tere, which doesn’t sound bad.
Overall, I Hate Luv Storys seems to be a soundtrack which is better than plain good. A few songs may remind you of things here and there, but overall, almost every song of the album is good, which is a big deal. Well done Vishal-Shekhar.

When Pritam composes for YRF, things somehow don’t happen to be his best. At least for past sometime, with an exception of New York to some extent. Dil Bole Hadippa went bad, and Badmaash Company doesn’t look too good, though the soundtrack of Badmaash Company is good enough to hear for some time. Here is a review.

O re Bande is the only composition of Piyush Mishra for the album Lahore, and is sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shilpa Rao. The song is a Qawwali with some wonderful restraints and makes Rahat do what he does best, singing a great Qawwali, without unnecessarily straining his voice, something that has almost become a trend with many composers just because he can do it and does it in most of his public performances.
Anyway, the song is a really good piece of music and while Piyush Mishra certainly is responsible for that, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is equally important as he sings it wonderfully while Shilpa too plays her part superbly. The song catches you in the right mood from the very start but Jis mand si muskaan ke aage jhuki hain kudratein part gives the peak of the song which makes it certainly worth listening to.

The cast of Toh Baat Pakki might not give big hopes about the movie but the songs seem worth a try with music composed by Pritam and songs sung by Mika, Sonu, Rahat, Shilpa Rao, Javed Ali.
The album opens with a happy-go-lucky Jis din mera Biyah Hovega by Mika. The song is somewhat like Bhootni ke (Singh is Kinng) without the bad words. The song is full of masti and looks like it will rock the marriage parties like anything if it gets some publicity. Full marks to Mika for the singing.
By the way, check for any similarities of the song with tauba ye matwali chaal, jhuk jaaye phoolon ki daal. Just in case.

2010 is turning out to be great in terms of music. While Veer was unexpectedly good, Ishqiya was HUGE and My Name is Khan is not disappointing either. The album, composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, has six songs, no remixes, Shankar Mahadevan in three of them but none sung alone by him. Names of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shafqat Amanat Ali, and Rashid Khan make clear from the very start that the album is majorly Sufi. Here is a review of MNIK.

Genius + Genius = Superb Work. Mostly.
Well. Ishqiya is something like that only. Here you have Vishal Bharadwaj and Gulzar. And with them come Sukhwinder Singh, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Rekha Bharadwaj, and, Mika. The result is certainly good.
OK. First, the bad thing about the album. That there are just four songs in the album (packed as seven tracks though) which was a bit disappointing when I saw the track listing. Second, will be updated when found. 😉
Enough, a seriously good album and here comes a serious review. As good as I can right now.

So the promos of My Name is Khan are finally out. And so have some pieces of music from here and there. I got a 3 and half minute clip of the song and some additional information. The song sounds good as Rahat Fateh Ali Khan sings for a full fledged SRK movie once again after Om Shanti Om, this time with Richa. Looks like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are ready to come back with a bang in 2010 after a comparatively dull 2009. Here is more:

When I saw the credits, I was surprised, nah, almost shocked to see the name of Rekha Bharadwaj and Sharib-Toshi with Shabaab Sabri, and I confirmed again that it was composed by Sajid-Wajid. Pritam is quite a man of incosistency. When I had almost stopped listening to him, he gave Tum Mile and Ajab Prem ki Ghajab Kahani, and when after these two non-stop albums I was expecting another great album, he beated my expectations De Dana Dan.
De Dana Dan may have its share of fine songs, but overall, it’s disappointing as it stands nowhere close to Tum Mile or even APKGK. In fact the one song that has been popularized and seems like one of the few good songs on the album belongs to RDB and thus Pritam’s share of good songs goes further down.
Out of twelve tracks of De Dana Dan, there are six songs as all songs have a remix or a second version except one. Here is the detailed review.
Rishte Naate: In De Dana Dan Pritam puts forward his best song as the very first as you hear Rahat Fateh Ali Khan singing at the start of the album, with vocals by Suzanne Demello. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has got the song a gear up than he generally sings at. For the reason, in the beginning you might feel the song a bit fast but ultimately the song sounds perfectly fine. Worth listening to.
