Crook is once again something wonderful by Pritam, this time with Babu Mann’s support.

The first song, Chhalla, is definitely a superb thing. Babu Mann’s song, which is so-heard, so-lovable, so-wonderful thing, I need not say will be an instant hit. Babu’s singing is lovable too. Btw, the song has Suzanne D’Mello singing too. Though she comes a second this time as Babu steals all the magic. Tadada-Tadada-Tada-dada.

Enters Nikhil D’Souza. If you’re reading the album covers carefully, you’d easily be knowing that the guy is progressing like anything and has sung with as varied composers as Amit Trivedi, Vishal-Shekhar and now Pritam, all that in less than two months. Well, the guy sounds pretty good and quite easy on ears, especially here as he sings Mere Bina, a slow, not-too-soft, but quite beautiful song for Pritam. Listen to the song. I can tell you’ll love it more every time.

The next is Pritam’s very own Neeraj Shridhar, singing Kya sunaun main kya bataun main. This time Neeraj gets a bit softer piece, (probably I’m comparing it to Mera Jeena hai kya) with some half English lines, quite typical of his. Definitely a good, quite likeable, and my guess is, addictive-to-be song, though not deep as the rest.

The next song is KK’s tujhi mein, quite a rock-ish number like many others Pritam has given to KK to sing, all of them good. The background beats of the song sound a bit nostalgic and from the very start of the song, I’m reminded of Gunaah’s Jab dil churaye koi, but frankly KK singing in the foreground is good enough to make me forget it.

The next song is a remix of Babu’s Chhalla, with a dhoom-dhoom-chik-chik. I wonder if the song has been added in the song early so as to make people not leave it and hear this one too. Well, not bad a remix. Liked it.

Next comes who was missing. Yeah, our very own Mohit Chauhan comes up to sing a very light tujhko jo paaya. A song with almost only guitar, a wonderful song, but the song seems so-very-heard. You know? Well, the song is the second track of the album, Mere Bina, sung by Mohit this time and with a different name. You may count it as unplugged, as it actually is unplugged, but then what would you call the Unplugged version of Mere Bina sung by KK. Golmaal hai bhai sab Golmaal hai. The only good thing is that the song sounds good for the second time too.

Next, KK starts a reprise version of Tujhi mein, but compared to the original, this version of Tujhi mein doesn’t sound all that good to me as I feel too many instruments have been added to the song and KK’s voice goes in kinda background, as much as that powerful a voice can go. Though, the pace of the song is seemingly a bit less which does add to the positive side. Still, for now I prefer the original one to reprise.

The next version of Tujhko jo paaya (credited Mere Bina this time) starts with some beautiful chords and I suddenly feel calm after the so-instrumented reprise of Tujhi mein. KK sings the so-called Unplugged version just awesomely and I once again fall in love with his voice, but at the same time, the song sounds repetitive as this is the third version of the song in the album. Yes, one song that makes 37.5% of this album. I think one of the versions should have been scrapped. Now don’t ask me which one, I may not be able to answer.

And that makes me say, Kudos to Nikhil D’Souza, for standing tall with established super singers like Mohit and KK.

Overall, the album is yet another in the ever-hit series of Pritam-Emraan Hashmi and will make no exception. With 8 tracks, which are actually just four songs, the album is not too big, but almost all the songs are good. Pritam has again gone for his tried and tested formulae, even though he has done tiny little experiments with his singers, and got quite good an album. Especially liked is Tujhko jo paaya/Mere Bina looks like something for short as well as long term.

Salim Sulaiman’s Aashayein was such a long pending album, I was never expecting it to release. But it finally did. It seems in the long time they have added as many remixes as possible, that’s how I can see 13 tracks on the album, made out of 7 songs.

The album surprisingly starts with a Pritam song, Mera Jeena hai kya, sung by Neeraj Shridhar. Interestingly, the song is a bit different from their typical songs as this one seems aligned towards rock. I wonder why Pritam didn’t get KK to sing this one. KK and Nagesh Kukunoor has already been an old hit jodi. Good one but could be better.

Then the next, Dilkash Dildaar duniya comes which is again a Pritam composition and sung by Shaan and Tulsi Kumar. A beat-based song with a nostalgic feel. Shaan is fine but I’m not coming to terms with Tulsi very well. Okay song.

The third song, Rabba comes from Shiraz Uppal. Somehow, I don’t like Shiraz Uppal very much with lower notes. Shiraz is a guy who is best when he sings with his full throat. But here he sings more on lower notes and goes high only for ‘Rabba ye kya hua, Rabba ye dil gaya’ there too not so good I had expected. Some good lyrics and certainly not a bad song, but was expecting more from Shiraz. This is just okay.

Then comes the already heard Zubeen sung ‘Ab mujhko Jeena.’ The song starts somewhat like Summer of 69 but then it moves to a fast, inspiring type song. Can’t say much about the song as I’ve heard it way too much already. It’s even been my ringtone for a long time. So all I can say is the song is definitely good.

Next song of the album, Shukriya Zindagi, that starts on a lovely note and as Shafqat starts singing ‘chhan ke aayi to kya chandni to mili’ in an easy mood, you know you’re going to get an inspirational treat from Salim-Sulaiman and Shafqat. Beautiful lyrics by Mir Ali Husain in continuously second song.

As Shreya Ghoshal starts rendering Pal mein Mila Jahan, in her soft voice, with almost nothing playing in the background, you think it’s a sad version of some song, but then the song proceeds, and after a tough job done by Shreya, instruments appear in the background. A really good song and some superb singing by Shreya but I don’t know how many will have patience to listen to this song. Try to listen to the song anyway.

Finally, Chala Aaya Pyaar brings in Mohit Chauhan. A quite slow, deep song with some romantic lyrics. Somehow after ‘Pal mein’ the song sounds a bit sad as it seems to mix with its predecessor, but as Mohit comes towards the higher notes in the song, you start liking it. Good use of percussion, loved the tabla in the song. Go for it, but it may need some patience before you fall for the song.

Shankar Mahadevan is a choice of many composers when it comes to deep songs, and even more when there are less instruments in the background, as Shankar has got some awesome power in his voice. Therefore, after Raajneeti’s Dhan dhan dharti re, he gets to sing another earthy song with less instruments and more singing. And the song is none other than Shreya sung Pal mein mila Jahan’s male version, but Shankar gives the song much more power than Shreya did. I guess people would like this one more, if they have enough patience to decide.

After this, the album has five remixes but I wouldn’t even hear them as of now, after listening to seven songs already. Oh, btw, there is one sad version of Shukriya Zindagi which is again a wonderful listen for those who appreciate one minute long instrumentless pieces. Cuz I was a fan of Aashayein slow version and always played the song after the slow version.

Overall, the album is not bad, but not very good either. While no song is actually bad, only a few, namely ab mujhko jeena, shukriya zindagi, pal mein mila jahan look upto their level. Mohit Chauhan and Shiraz Uppal are a bit below their own set standards. The biggest problem is that few songs in the album catch you instantly, though I hope many of the songs will sound just perfect in the movie as background.

All I’d say is, I had some more aashayein from aashayein.

Housefull’s music is not great. It’s what it is supposed to be – Total Time Pass and Entertaining. Like it, love it, use it, throw it. Well, almost.

The album starts with O girl you’re mine, which starts with a tune that used to run in silent comedies once. The song, as you must have heard on TV or Youtube or in your neighbourhood or office, is a catchy piece and O girl you’re mine is so tongue sticking that you can’t help it. Uff Teri Adaa craze Alyssa is there but there is hardly anything for singers in the song and anyone would do equally good. Well, almost. Again.

The next one, papa jag jayega, might have been a bit more long lasting but the lyrics of the song are almost crappy (should I say movie oriented?) and the song doesn’t really click at least on an stand alone listening, though Neeraj’s husky voice suits the song and the lyrics Papa jag jaayega well and he sings ‘not bad’.

Aapka kya hoga? Janaabe-aali?? Yeah, it’s the same song with an added Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy touch, which doesn’t sound bad, and Mika flavor which interestingly, surprisingly, sounds Good. Overall, the Dhanno song has quite some additions in between the old Lawaris song but more or less it’s a new version of the old song. Still, the way Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Mika sound, the song may well ROCK dance floors. Purists may choose to keep distance.

I don’t know what to do is something NEW because it brings up so OLD to us. Think of Sunidhi Chauhan singing like Shamshad Begum (hope most of you know her) and Shabbir Kumar cloning Mohammad Rafi in a duet. That makes Housefull’s I don’t know what to do. Did I hear Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy say “aaja tujhe heaven dikhayenge”?

Loser sung by Amitabh Bhattacharya and Vivienne Pocha is a bit different. Though deep down in my heart I felt the song was somehow inspired by Dev.D soundtrack (‘Inspired’ is Not ‘Copied’ here), I’m not gonna say that openly. According to me the song, somewhere near rap (though it’s certainly not rap) by my limited knowledge of genres, will take it’s own time but good chances people will love it in the end. The song is going to be good in the movie is doubtless.

Disappointing thing about the album, though, is that the remixes are hardly worth anything and Oh Girl and Papa Jag Jayega both have very normal (read boring) remixes. The only one I liked to some extent was the remix of I don’t know what to do, known as Shabbir’s sexy ’70s remix.

Overall, Housefull is an album made for entertainment and to a large extent, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have been successful in doing what they seem to be trying to do. For now, my pick is O girl while for later I am relying on Loser too. A listening of ‘I don’t know what to do’ is highly recommended. What to do later is your wish.

And then, I found this album called Na Ghar Ke Na Ghaat Ke, composed by Lalit Pandit. So here is a music review.

The album starts with the title song, Na Ghar ke Na Ghaat ke munna, sung by Remo Fernandes, who is singing rarely for Bollywood movies for quite some time. The song gets me quite some hope as it starts, but it gets kind of confused in between as the antara goes banal and Remo alone struggles to make the song what it started as, not really succeeding to get the same effect as comes in the first minute of the song. Still the song is a good try by Lalit and makes me feel that if he tries to do new things like this and does that with persistence, the results can be good. Try and listen to the song 2-3 times and then decide if you liked it. It may be a bit loud, but it’s not bad.

Agar hum tumko chheden to is something that is quite trying to be Chor Bazari but while the music of the song succeeds, the lyrics go absolute crass in some places. Still, the song made on simple beats is sung well by Neeraj and Shreya sounds sweet. So the overall result is that once u adapt yourself to the lyrics, you kind of like it. Kind of not bad. Just wish there were better lyrics than ‘kahin babuji na aa jaayen.’

Sajan Bawre, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, is the big black patch like the one on a pirate’s eye, in an otherwise good, or at least trying to be good album. It’s an “item” song but I wonder if there is anything in the song for which Sunidhi’s voice is needed, except a few sounds here and there, which seem like trying to add at least something to the song. Resulting in nothing. The lyrics are crass.

Overall, Na Ghar Ke Na Ghaat ke is an album that goes beyond expectations, as there were zero expectations. But then, Lalit Pandit, trying to create some good music, falls for cheap music too, and the result is almost the name of the movie. Still, try the title song and agar hum tumko chheden, you may get something for until the next album’s release.

Note to lyricist: Adding Amreeka to any crap song doesn’t make you Piyush Mishra.

I doubt if Jatin or Lalit alone will be able to reach the level of Jatin-Lalit. But they are trying. And here is one of those tries. Lalit Pandit composes for Shahrukh Khan-Sushmita Sen starrer, Mudassar Aziz’s Dulha Mil Gaya, which turns out to be a good album with a mixture of old and new tastes. Here is a review of the album.

Akela Dil Online: Most of the times, music has one quality. If you keep on listening to it, you start loving it even if it’s mediocre. Akela Dil online is such a song. It’s nothing great, but it’s okay and since you’ll keep listening to it, you’ll start liking it. By the way, the song is sung by Adnan Sami and Anushka Manchanda and is full of beats. Nothing like the typical Jatin-Lalit material. As I said, OKAY.

Aaja Aaja Mere Ranjhna: One thing about this song. The song is straight from the Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham age. At times you can pinpoint the line too. Interestingly, the song, that comes from the K3G age, is also sung by Anushka Manchanda with Swananda. The interesting part is even though the voices have not been great (no doubts they are ‘good’), you might easily fall for the song. Yes, Jatin-Lalit are back for a song it seems.

Magar Meri Jaan: The next song, too, is sung by Anushka Manchanda (this is the last by the way), with Mahua Kamat and Lalit pandit. The song has some good music, but the lyrics are very mediocre. Still, since it’s an SRK movie, I don’t think people are going to think much about the lyrics and anyway going to love it.

Tu jo Jaan le: Like him. Love him. Sonu Nigam is here. At his old, romantic best. Lalit Pandit creates some wonderful music for Sonu Nigam to croon and Sonu takes it with both hands. Try the song, hope you love the older flavor of Sonu Nigam. I’m just listening to it. Tu jo jaan le to phir jaan de o meri jaane jaan… .. mera dil hai pata teri manzil ka..

Rang Diya Dil Maine: Five songs are over since the album is on and now I get a song where the female voice belongs to someone other than Anushka. Well, this time it’s Shreya Ghoshal and somehow her voice reminds me of Devdas songs here. The song is slow-soft-romantic, in Hindi with some Punjabi additions, but interestingly it’s faster than the usual songs of this type. In fact sometimes I feel that the song was run in 1.1 or something of the actual speed after recording. Anyways, an above average song. Not very noticeable but video will certainly help it a lot.

Dulha Mil Gaya: Starting with a brrrrrrrr… sound, this is the song you hear on your TV screens everyday (if you are watching any TV, of course). Sung by Daler Mehndi, Dulha Mil Gaya title is going to be a superhit. Because it’s catchy, it has an energetic Daler Mehndi, and biggest of all, it’s the title song of an SRK movie.

Dilrubaon ke Jalwe: Dilrubaon ke Jalwe, A new age Qawwali sung by Amit Kumar with Monali, is something worth looking out for in Dulha Mil Gaya. The song is a full of masti piece that should be loved by people once out in the market.

Tu Meri Shirin aur Main Tera Farhaad: Here comes the guest composer Pritam Chakraborty for one song and brings with him his favorite Neeraj Shridhar, singing with Tulsi Kumar. Typical Pritam-Neeraj song that will stay in your mind and will have its share of FM time for some weeks.

The songs Dilrubaon ke Jalwe, Dulha mil gaya, and akela dil online have been remixed.

Overall, Dulha Mil Gaya is a good album with a number of above average songs and a few really good ones, like Dilrubaon ke jalwe and tu jo jaan le. In fact, the way Lalit Pandit has made things good while there was not much expected, at least by me; I will be less surprised if Dulha Mil Gaya turns out to be something really good.

It’s different. It’s all about dance and you’ll get to know that when you get to hear the songs. Composer Adnan Sami, who composes all the songs of the movie except ‘Just Do it’, has tried to make the songs catchy and energetic but hasn’t been very successful in making things all good. In some songs he’s good, in some just okay and sometimes failure. Here is a review of CPD music, in Alphabetical order of songs.

Just Do It: The less than two minute composition by Sandip Shirodkar and Ken Ghosh is sung by Amit Kumar. A dance rap that is quite new for Amit, though he’s been bit close to it in Jhankaar Beats. Voice sounds a bit different though and it’s not easy to guess whose voice it is. The lyrics of the song are interesting where Amitabh Bhattacharya (lyricist: Dev.D, singer: iktara) tries to explain what dance is. Definitely new and fresh. Try it to know if you like it. I certainly did.

One More Dance: During the past few months Kunal Ganjawala has not been as successful as he used to be earlier. Probably because he’s not being given much chance by the best of music directors nowadays. This time he sings a composition of Adnan Sami and the result is almost the same again. The dance song, though it starts well and high on energy, falls to just okay not long after the start. Disappointing.

Pal mein Hi: If you haven’t heard it yet, go find it. (It’s there in this blog too, here). Pal mein hi is certainly the song that is going to make the CDs of CPD sell in the market. Soham Chakrabarthy and Shreya Ghoshal have sung this high pitched romantic, beatful-beautiful dance number. Lovable song.

Pe Pe Pein: This song is sung by Hard Kaur (sounding somewhat like in APKGK again), Neeraj Shridhar, and Master Saleem (Aahun Aahun). A dance song again where Adnan Sami has tried to do some experiments with Shehnai and been quite successful there. Neeraj Shridhar, Saleem, Shehnai and catchy music may make the song a hit if promoted well. Kumaar’s lyrics are in the right mood too. Interesting one.

The song also has a remix where the speed is slightly increased and some more instruments have been added in places, and even Tulsi Kumar has been added for a few lines. No big changes though.

Pump it Up: This time Adnan Sami calls him to sing and Vishal Dadlani gets one more composer added to his list. Though Vishal has been good to song, composing and mixing have not been as good as expected and the song gets lost somewhere in between after a good build up of one and half minute. Instrumental music becomes kind of too much while the song comes back but once lost, the taste doesn’t come back to the song, and the listener.

The remix version of Pump it up has some good beats and the remix impresses after a confusing original version. I’d say try the remix version of the song. It’s more regular than the regular one, and better.

Though, my guess is that a dancing Shahid Kapoor can make people love this song as it sounds quite hyper energetic and if Shahid’s dance happens to be of the same level, it can make any song a dance anthem.

Rishta Hai Mera Aasmano se: Shaan and Tulsi Kumar sing this one. And believe it or not, for some reason, Tulsi sounds strange and kind of idiotic in the first line she sings. Thankfully, you don’t hear much of her but she makes a good song of Shaan somewhat mediocre. Though later on she’s OK, I wonder if the daughter of Cassette King is really good enough a singer to get the number of songs she does. Anyway, try the song. Shaan has been energetic in the song and it should anyway work. Some added patches of music sound good too.

Yaba Daba Yahoo: Kunal has sung one more song in the album and this one is even more energetic but sounds Anu-Malikish, which, I do not think works very well nowadays. The song is a bit too much on words and not that good with music. Average.

Overall, Chance pe Dance is above average but below expectations. Just do it, Pal mein hi, and even pe pe pein make things good, but one more dance and yaba daba yahoo don’t sound very good. Hope Shahid on screen makes things better for the album.

Pritam is quite a man of incosistency. When I had almost stopped listening to him, he gave Tum Mile and Ajab Prem ki Ghajab Kahani, and when after these two non-stop albums I was expecting another great album, he beated my expectations De Dana Dan.

De Dana Dan may have its share of fine songs, but overall, it’s disappointing as it stands nowhere close to Tum Mile or even APKGK. In fact the one song that has been popularized and seems like one of the few good songs on the album belongs to RDB and thus Pritam’s share of good songs goes further down.

Out of twelve tracks of De Dana Dan, there are six songs as all songs have a remix or a second version. Here is the detailed review.

Out of twelve tracks of De Dana Dan, there are six songs as all songs have a remix or a second version except one. Here is the detailed review.

Rishte Naate: In De Dana Dan Pritam puts forward his best song as the very first as you hear Rahat Fateh Ali Khan singing at the start of the album, with vocals by Suzanne Demello. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has got the song a gear up than he generally sings at. For the reason, in the beginning you might feel the song a bit fast but ultimately the song sounds perfectly fine. Worth listening to.

Paisa: The second song of the album is the one you must have heard a lot of times on your television already. RDB’s Paisa, featuring Manak-E and Selina. Main Barish kar doon paise ki, jo tu ho jaaye meri is a song that is surely going to rule the charts for a few weeks. Listen to this one on full volume or even better, in North Indian weddings, on the DJ.

Gale Lag Ja: One of the first things I do with any album now is searching Javed Ali’s name in credits. Here I found him again with Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contestant Banjyotsna for the song Gale lag ja. Gale lag ja happens to be the other song that I liked in the album, or at least find worth listening to, if only because of Javed Ali’s voice. Try the song, even though it’s a quite typical love song, you may like it.

Bamulaiza: OK. Here we start moving downwards. This one, called Ba-mulaiza, sounds quite like a song of Anu Malik in the ’90s. The song, though sung by Mika, Style Bhai and Dominique, is probably going to go unnoticed except for being played on FM sometimes, that due to its beats. Nothing much to say on this one.

Hotty Naughty: And here was the SURPRISE. A song written by Neeraj Shridhar, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, almost half the lyrics in English. And copy of the superhit Haryanvi song Hat ja taau. For those who know the song, the unrapped part of Hotty-Naughty can be made by replacing Hat ja taau pachhe ne, naachan de jee bhar ke ne with you wanna feel me touch me hold me now, I’m hotty naughty babe in town. Simple as that, no need to go to Indonesia or Japan for this discovery of Pritamji.

Rishte Naate – Remix: Well, this is new. Before the end of original songs (wow, that word after the last song) there are remixes in. And this remix of Rishte Naate is sung by Kunal! Try hard but this stands Nowhere near the original. Skip.

Bamulaiza – Ragga Mix: Slightly better than the original. Hope runs better.

Gale Lag Ja (Version 2): No major changes from the original version. I guess that’s the best thing about the song. Nothing much again.

Hotty Naughty Remix: Remix of a dance number is another dance number. Easier for DJs. But yeah, the voice behind the microphone changes and this time it’s not Sunidhi but Kalpana Patwari.

OK. Enough of remixes. Jumping to the only song that remains. De Dana Dan, the title song. Well, the title song De Dana Dan is the one that has not been remixed in the album. And from the song all I could collect was that there is hardly scope for a remix. The best part of the song is that it’s Extremely Catchy. The bad part is that it’s use and throw.

Oh, here remains the Paisa remix. Dance baby Dance. And forget the song.

Time for summary. Music of De Dana Dan doesn’t really seem to be a serious thing. Other than Rishte Naate and Gale Lag ja, no song of the album can be expected to last long, even if some of them go fine for sometime. Paisa and the title song are OK for short time. Bamulaiza is avoidable and Hotty Naughty is plagiarism again. Not that it makes the song any worse. It’s just OK.

Two and a half stars. On recommendation.

Update: Meaning of Bamulaiza: One common query is about the meaning of Bamulaiza. Well, the word is actually bamulahiza, which means ‘with attention or regard to somebody’. You might have heard the word at the start of any court’s proceedings during movies, especially in 1970s.
