Dhinchak Zindagi didn’t sound so dhinchak to me even with its not bad melody, probably because of its arrangements, and Kunal sounds a bit too enthusiastic here, but then that probably goes with the song. Overall fine, but not too great.

The next, do kabootar gets some reduction in noise levels, and even though it’s Kunal again, the song and the singing are both better. Even though the song is nice, if you listen to the lyrics, they seem worthy of a little more serious tune. Not bad still. Like it.

And here comes X-Factor, as producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali gets Nirmatee from the show to sing a song composed by Shamir Tandon and Kavita Seth, and written by Deepa Sheshadri. While the song seems like a last moment addition to the album, and may not be in the movie, the singer is definitely nice, another addition in the list of husky voices, and the song, Intezaar, is not bad. A bit heard-somewhere type, but nice.

Kunal’s next, Take it Easy, brings Gayatri as well, though she doesn’t really get much in the song. Anyway, the song with a lot of easy on ears guitar is easy on ears overall too, and the light lyrics keep it natural. Like it.

Hitesh Sonik composed Tu, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, comes next. Sunidhi almost whispers the song, making her voice a little husky and tough to identify in the process. Must listen.

Yaadon ke album has got some really wonderful lyrics from Amitabh Bhattacharya, while KK gives life to the slightly rock’ish composition of Ajay-Atul.

Overall My Friend Pinto is a nice album and has some nice songs, especially the last two, namely tu and yaadon ke album mein. While Kunal’s Do kabootar and Take it easy are fine too.

Ajay-Atul might be a new name for an average Hindi music listener, but for those who are into Marathi music in the slightest, Ajay Gogavale and Atul Gogavale are definitely not new. After their smaller stints in Hindi movies like Viruddh, finally they are here in a popular, big budget typical Bollywood movie, Rohit Shetty’s Singham. And they seem good here as well.

The album starts with the title song, sung by none other than Sukhwinder Singh. Sukhiji, who has Omkara and Dabangg to his credits, gets even more serious here and the song does not only have a catchy title rhythm, but a good antara as well, giving us a quality title song. Sukhwinder’s voice has been given some effects here, but interestingly, the rock-solid voice is sounding good with them as well. Nice start.

Badmash Dil. Oops, Saathiya. Well, whatever be the title of the song, Ajay-Atul come up with a superbly lovely romantic number sung by Shreya Ghoshal, supported by Ajay Gogavale himself, giving it a breeze that is nowadays found only in Mohit Chauhan’s songs. Do listen to it.

The last, yes, the third and the last original song of the album, has a relatively unthinkable combination of Richa Sharma and Kunal Ganjawala who sing Maula Maula together. The song has a Qawwali-ish mood though it’s not a full-fledged Qawwali, but what is best in the song is that the melody and the overall music of the song are good and while likable at the first listening, the song will still take time to completely grow on you.

Another good thing about the album is that out of three, two remixes also sound more-than-average, and the third isn’t bad either.

In short, Singham is an album to listen to. Do buy, do listen.

I don’t really look forward to Tusshar Kapoor’s movies. Or their music. But recently, it seems things are becoming different. Last week it was Shor in the City and this time it’s none other than Sandesh Shandilya’s Love u Mr Kalakaar that seem to have changed things for at least now. Here comes a review.

Sandesh’s album starts with a song called Sarphira sa hai dil, sung by Shreya and, wait-for-it, Neeraj Shridhar. Well, Sandesh seems to be doing things more market-way in this one (and hence comes Neeraj) but not in a negative way. A soft-romantic and good melody but with some not-so-typical-of-him arrangements from the composer. Sounds more like a good work of Pritam, definitely worth a try.

The next song, Tera Intezaar, brings in Vijay Prakash and Gayatri Ganjawalla and while this one may not be loved by some fans of Sandesh Shandilya’s fans (I hope he has some), it’s a good one again. The beats may sound a bit too much but Vijay Prakash gets to sing a lovely one and I think the song can pick up quite fast.

The next song, Bhoore Bhoore Badal has Kunal Ganjawalla and Shreya doing some back-to-Shandilya singing. Nice and kinda experimental one with some good lyrics, but somehow this poetry doesn’t take off as well as I expected at the start. Still do listen to the song if you like Shandilya’s music. You might like it as well.

Kunal-Gayatri Ganjawalla sung title song is the, well, boring title song, for probably the credits. Kunal in his typical style and not too bad, but nothing really musical.

Next comes a Mohit Chauhan-Shivangi Kashyap sung Kahin se Chali aa, which is attracting from the very first word. I need not say that Mohit Chauhan and Sandesh can be a deadly combination, and in this one Mohit seems to be just gliding his voice on the music in a very natural style without any special treatment. Kinda soothing, though I probably won’t say the same for Shivangi.

Again, Reeky Dev’s revisited Tera Intezaar isn’t bad. The Mumbai-based-Bangladeshi singer (says FB) does sound good here. Will probably look for the name going further.

The last, Reaching for the Rainbow sung by Jenice Sobti and Vinnie Hutton, is a soothing all-English melody, which somehow enticed such a hardly-ever English listener. Not bad, I guess.

Overall, Love u Mr Kalakaar seems to be a good step as it definitely goes beyond my expectations, which was actually a big naught (I didn’t know it was a Barjatya’s thing) and even though the album is not something huge, the songs are okay and almost all are at least worth a try. So do listen to the album and decide how many songs would stick to your playlist. I expect a few, at least kahin se chali aa, and probably a version of Tera intezaar.

Hum Do Anjaane is an album composed by Prashant Singh.

The album starts with Soniye, which is definitely the best, and to some extent the only song worth listening to in the album. The sounding-somewhat-like-90s tune is good and Kunal sings the song well, making some other things ignorable and the song enjoyable. The duet song is also sung by Amit Mishra in a solo, band version where Amit tries hard to sound good and succeeds too, but Kunal is what is missing in that one. Anyway, worth a try.

The next, Pallu Latke, is simply avoidable.

Pamela Jain’s soft-romantic Resham si is not too great, but the song is an okay composition while Pamela sings it well. Okay stuff.

Tresspassing, sung by Jolly Mukherjee, Prashant and Vinti Singh sounds interestingly cool. With the first note the song sounds like it is not at all worth it, but somehow the talk-lyrics are well fit in the music and make it interesting, and after listening to it for a few times one feels like it’s not that bad. Nothing big, but try once for yourself if you want to. You MAY like it.

The next, Manga hai is a good tune and sounds pretty good, but parts of the song are clearly lifted from Madholal Keep Walking’s Naina Laage. Not bad otherwise.

Amit Mishra and Shruti Rane’s come on come on, is again, avoided.

Abhi Kuch Dino se is a typical Mohit Chauhan made-to-be-hit. Music is good and lyrics are fine too. Overall something new for a few months. Go for it.

Beshubaha is again a beautiful song where Antara Mitra proves herself once again and Kunal is good to listen. Pritam seems to be going on the track of Once Upon a Time in Mumbai as I could feel a touch of I’m in love here. Good one again.

Jaadugari again has Kunal singing. He seems to be almost making a comeback after being off for past some time. First Guzaarish and now two songs on the album. Good to hear. As for the song, a soft, romantic song in Kunal’s typical voice, something that will be taking space in your mind slowly.

The next song is Tere Bin, a soft-romantic-super-awesomely-beautiful song sung by Sonu Nigam. OK, maybe I said a bit too much, but one of those lovely romantic tracks that suit Sonu Nigam a lot. Do listen.

Something I almost hate about Pritam is that he gives the same song to N number of people and public keeps comparing. Here Naresh Iyer gets the same song as Sonu and the reprise has hardly a thing different, I mean even the prelude remains there. I think there could be an unplugged version or something there. Just one thing to say, independent of Sonu’s version that is, Naresh Iyer rocks.

Though what surprised me was the new name of Shefali Alvaris who comes up to sing ‘Ye Dil hai Nakhrewala‘ and doesn’t sound like a first timer at all (Is she one? Never heard the name). Well sung cabarette-ish item-ish number. Though I don’t know what is it that Pritam was trying to do with Antara Mitra’s version.

Anyway, the overall score of the album is definitely good with all the songs going at least above average, to lovely. Simply, go for the album.

Payback starts with Jaane Kab that almost starts with ‘Soniyo’ and follows up with Ashish Om’s Atif’ish voice, turning into a sweet and simple song going further. Even though the song has some clear traces from here and there as told, it doesn’t sound bad. So overall an okay song.

Dev Sikdar and Payal’s Jee le is a usual item’ish dance number, something like Neeyat Kharab hai, though below that standard. Passable.

The next song, Taqdeer ki Sadak pe, sung by Kunal Ganjawala, is again a song that is okay on music and a bit better on lyrics, but somehow the song isn’t very great to listen to, probably because of the very regular arrangements, and our high growing expectations. For now the verdict is Okay.

Road pe, sung by Suraj Jagan seems to be an interesting song though, is a fine composition, well arranged, and Suraj Jagan sings it pretty well. The only let down that comes early in the song is the lyrics that go road pe ik mod pe, which makes it sound like road title song. Still, a likable song.

Payback theme, is fine. Nothing more to say.

Overall, Payback is an average songs with most of the songs lying near the average line, a bit above or below. While no song is too bad, none is too good. Still you can go for Road pe, while Jaane kab and Taqdeer aren’t bad.

Monty Sharma’s Mirch is an album with some wonderful songs, even though there are a few signs of desperateness too. The best thing of the album is Shankar Mahadevan’s rock-meets-classical song Kaare Kaare Badra. The song is a beautiful fusion done with some good effort and Shankar does the song in a way that I feel this was made for him. Do listen to this one.

The next good thing here is Bela Shende’s Mann bhi hai. The song is a beautiful poetry and Bela has sung it beautifully over the simple music. Nothing too high or trying-too-hard. Just simple and lovely so.

Ila Arun’s voice in the beginning of Mora Saiyyan may for once make you doubt the beauty of the song, but as soon as Pt Girish Chattopadhyay enters the song, you know it’s good. But then I felt Ila Arun’s voice is probably not required in the background there. Still, she sings the ‘maari nathni’ part perfectly. A bit of desperate effort, but a good one. Listen and decide for yourself if you are okay with the song.

Tikhi Tikhi Mirch, sung by Kalpana Patowary in the folk version and by Akriti Kakkar in Western version clears one thing for sure, and that is that Monty Sharma cannot do so much with Western arrangements as he can with Indian instruments. Kalpana’s version sounds like a very typical item number but still this is the version I’d prefer. Akruti’s version is simply not it.

And before that, there is one more thing in the album that I quite liked. Kunal Ganjawala, Vaishali Samant and Sharmishtha’s Zindagi tu hi bata seems to have Kunal Ganjawala in the same touch as Guzaarish, mostly because of the lyrics. the song is some good poetry with some beautiful lyrics. The music is decent and singing is good, but the song doesn’t click if you are not into the lyrics of the song. Listen to this one for the positive lyrics.

Overall Mirch is a fine album with some good songs like Shankar’s Badra and Bela’s Mann bhi hai, while Zindagi and Mora Saiyyan aren’t bad. Do listen to the album for Badra and Mann bhi hai.

maaguvanjalo.. aagubenjaaaalo…
a aen aen aen e eo.. a aen aen aen e eo..

Got what is that? Start of a good album, and a wonderful song. The album is called Raavan, and the song is, yes, you get that. Beeera. Beera, beera beera beera, beera beera beera beera beera, beera ke dus maathe, beera ke sau naam, chhede jo beera ko, dhama dham dham dham. If there was anything that could ever be compared to beera, it was probably Omkara, but seems Omkara also stays behind beera when it comes to being musical.

arre beera uthti aandhi, beera ek toofaan, saans mein ugle agni jalti jaan jalti jaan beera..
Janm na poochho, jaat na poochho, poochho jo pehchaan beera ka abhimaan hai abhimaan hai abhimaan hai.. Beera..

So u know what we are talking in Beera. Now, though it is difficult to do, we move ahead of Beera n see what lies ahead. The next is Karthik’s behne de, a lyrical feat by Gulzar. But the lines of the song are so long that Rahman, probably in a try to keep the lines intact, lets the song go bland in some places. The song has a good melody that will be liked by anyone who listens to the song enough number of times, but it’s certainly not a song that strikes you immediately, at least not until you devote yourself to hear the lyrics of the song. A horse for longer races, not recommended for 100 meters.

Thok de Killi, the next one, is my favourite yet, not counting Beera which has been there for weeks. The song sung by Sukhwinder Singh along with am’nico sounds like a full-of-masti war-cry. It’s full of circling melodies and the Gulzar’s long lyrics are sung such that they sound like a tongue-twisting maze for the first few times. Only when you master those mazes will you be able to enjoy the song with all your heart but it is likeable from the very first time you hear it.

The next song of the album, Raanjha Raanjha, is a slow one. Instead of saying more about the song, I’d prefer to tell you that the song is sung by Rekha Bharadwaj and suits her voice perfectly. Though the song is quite good, somehow Javed Ali with Rekha Bharadwaj may take some time to digest as Javed Ali seems too polished, straight and simple, with the earthy voice of Rekha, if you understand what I mean. In case you don’t, simply go for the song anyway.

Khili re. That’s the next song of the album that started with Beera beera. Frankly, I’m writing this because it seems that I need to remind myself of this fact after listening to the ever-so-slow-smooth-and-touchy song after that warlike start. A gem.

the last song of Raavan is Kata kata bechara bakra. Strange things: Ila Arun, Sapna Awasthi and Kunal Ganjawala. The set of the three I mean. Also, interestingly, Kunal doesn’t sound much like himself and sounds like one from Rahman’s own men. Anyway, the song doesn’t sound all that good to me. Ila Arun sounds fun but the song is not so fun as I had expected. A not-so-good end to the good album.

Overall, Raavan is good. We don’t have all that variety in the album but in quality makes up for the variety most of the times. Beera is exceptionally beautiful (maybe I’m biased) and Thok de Killi is awesome. Regarding the CD, I could suggest buying the album for Beera alone. Rest is yours to decide.

Raj Kanwar’s Sadiyaan has Adnan Sami as its music director. Now while most of the songs of the song are quite usual, Adnan ropes in a lot of singers in what seems like a try to make it look varied. Many of the song can also be found using Adnan’s trademark Tabla/other instruments with restrains, somewhat like in Bheegi Bheegi raaton mein or most songs of Lucky. The only thing I liked in the compositions of Adnan here is that the tunes are mostly melodious and some of his songs are likable even with his typical style’s strong presence.

The album opens with Shaan and Shreya Ghoshal’s Jaadu Nasha Ehsaas Kya, which is completely in Lucky flavor. The song is okay but Adnan’s good orchestration doesn’t affect very positively as it sounds repetitive. Overall, an okay song.

Taaron Bhari hai ye raat is a good composition which Adnan decides to sing himself with Sunidhi Chauhan. The result is a good song that will take some time to be liked. Now whether the movie is going to last that long is a question. Still, a good one from Adnan even though it sounds bit like a ’90s tune.

The next song, Sargoshiyon ke kya silsile hain, starts beautifully as Shreya croons ehsaas khwahishon ka saanson mein mar na jaaye, sadiyaan guzar gayi hain, lamha guzar na jaaye. But then, a beautiful tune again gets Adnan’s repetitive orchestration which works kind of negative for the tune. Still, Raja Hasan’s voice sounds fresh in the song and the melody is worth listening to, as a result of which I do not mind listening to this exceedingly typical Adnan tune too. A real good song, if only it had more fresh instruments in the background.

Dekha tujhe jo pehli baar is finally something new from Adnan, especially because of the way Shaan’s voice is made to sound prominent and above all instruments. Good tune. Even better singing. Certainly worth a try for it’s light fusion behind Shaan’s superb voice.

Manmauji Matwala starts with hurrrr, chak de, and hadippa (I don’t mean Yashraj movies) by Mika. But somehow I get a feel that this tune had potential to be much more than it is made to be. I think Man mauji matwala is a composition that deserved a Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and not a Mika, as it’s not that typical dance tune it has been used as. Anyway, the song in it’s present form is likable anyway. Try the song if you’re looking for one more Mika piece; he has tried his best to color the song in his own color.

With the next track, Sona lagda Mahi sona Lagda, Adnan gets more variety and quality to the album as Richa Sharma croons the song with the background vocals from senior Sabri Brothers (Sharib n Toshi should be the junior Sabri Brothers now, isn’t it?). A good song which either fails to make a typical Sufi song or simply doesn’t try to do that. Whatever it is, the result is fresh and sounds good to ears. Liked the song.

The next song, Pehla Pehla Tajurba hai is a good composition sung by Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi, but somehow I did not like the song a lot as it seems that Adnan tries to westernize a melody. Seems Kunal is getting typecast with a certain type of songs and most of his songs are sounding the same recently. Wonder when he will be back to charts.

The last song of the album, Sadiyaan Ve, or Waqt ne jo bij boya as it is credited, is one of the best songs of the album and so Adnan Sami brings Rekha Bharadwaj to sing the song. The song is a good composition and has some good lyrics too, though the difference between Sameer and Gulzar or even Javed Akhtar can be clearly seen and felt. The song is actually the story of a mother’s journey and Rekha sounds perfect for singer.

Overall, Sadiyaan is an above average album by Adnan Sami that could be very good had he tried to keep it fresh. Also some songs are ‘excruciatingly’ long, just like the word. Still, the album has some melody that you may like to hear. If you’re not in a mood to hear the long soundtrack, just try Taaron bhari, Dekha tujhe jo, Sona Lagda and Sadiyaan ve. Not necessarily in that order. ‘Sargoshiyon’, though good, is very Adnan-like but can be tried.
