Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge: Music Review (Raghu Dixit)

Welcome to Bollywood, Mr Project. (For the uninitiated, Raghu Dixit is the only guy I know whose band is called Project. Hence the loving name.)

Dhaeon Dhaeon sung by Vishal Dadlani and Aditi Singh Sharma is addictive, and still it’s not what you call come n go. Nice.

Ash King and Shilpa Rao’s Uh-oh-uh-oh kya hua is something to love. The music, especially the orchestration of the song sounds quite simple, but I don’t think many people can do it this nicely. Beautiful job by the composer, as well as both the singers. DO listen.

Zindagi na Milegi Dobara: Music Review

Kab tak ginen hum dhadkanein, dil jaise dhadke dhadakne do has that soul that is found in Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy-Farhan combos, that gives you the confidence to ‘do’ something, a Lakshya thing. Joi Barua sings for SEL in this one. Ik Junoon (Paint it Red) is a poppish one that goes to its limited highs in a way that it will be slowly, but highly addictive.

Khwabon ke Parindey has Alyssa singing a beautiful song in her sweet, eclectic voice, while Mohit supports her. Alyssa does a Caralisa in this one, almost going the Phir dekhiye style, though the song is slightly higher on notes compared to that one.

Senorita sung by Hrithik, Farhan, Abhay and Maria Del Mar Fernandez is gonna be the attraction of the album as the three actors seem to be doing good not only in singing but dancing as well. Lovely.

Shankar Mahadevan gives his first solo appearance in Der Lagi Lekin, Maine jeena seekh liya. I think the line says a lot about the song. Javed Akhtar’s positive lyrics have been sung by Shankar with all ease and in a way that the song appeals to you the very first time, to grow on you more, every time you listen to it. DO listen.

Loy, Dominique, Clinton Cerejo. You know what type the song is gonna be as soon as you read the names. A techno-techno Sooraj ki Baahon mein is nothing too new as far as arrangements are concerned, but the composition has got some simple-addictive-good beats and you learn four lines the first time you listen. You know what it means, don’t you? Hey Yeah!

In To Zinda ho tum. Farhan Akhtar renders his dad’s words as a poem with some music in the background, something that tends to inspire you, but though the words are good and well rendered, probably they are a bit too less. Could have been more, and thus better.

As for remixes, Ik Junoon remix is even more addictive than the actual song I guess, though Senorita Remix is not as interesting as the original.

Overall, ZNMD is something to celebrate, like you see in the movie. Do go for it. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are there again.

No One Killed Jessica: Music Review. Amit Trivedi.

There are two ways to listen to Dilli.

One. Rock your stereo and include/forget your neighbours.
Two. Fit your earphones well and turn the volume up.

Either way, Dilli rocks. The same deep pain that was there in some songs of Dev.D, has finally come back in Dilli. And while Amit Trivedi’s music is nothing less than awesome, Amitabh Bhaattacharya touches the emotions in very few words. If there is anything missing in the song, move to the hardcore version. * evil smile *

The second song, Aetbaar, brings Bollywood’s rockstar Vishal Dadlani with Amit Trivedi and the result is rocking. Wait, I’m using the word again. No, can’t help. This is a second rocking song in a row. The Sufi touch in ‘dil aetbaar karke ro raha hai’ with Vishal’s very rock singing is worth a praise. Lovable song, and particularly good lyrics by Amitabh.

The next song, Yeh Pal, is a solo by Shilpa Rao where she simply sings Amitabh Bhattacharya’s deep lyrics to a very light music, almost like a poem. While the second half of the same song is an instrumental with Aetbaar visible there. Good, though not catchy and so, may take its own time.

The next song is a very experimental Aali re, which is probably what may be an ‘Amit Trivedi Item Song.’ The song seems to have a Mumbaiyya soul, at least the title ‘aali re’ made me feel so. But with the lines ‘patloon mein junoon hai’ the song almost talks of Delhi too. OK. Don’t take an offence Delhi people. I just mean the not-so-minded-language of the place. Nice experiment, but not a great song. And no, this is Not Motumaster.

And then, there is Dua.

A beautiful voice, that of Meenal Jain, comes up to sing some words after a very light music and then a chorus, sorry, Joi, Raman and Amitabh join in to sing Sab sajde mein, sajde mein, sajde mein, dua karo, with Amit Trivedi turning the song into an anthem-ish style with that chorus and those army band style beats. Not exactly fresh, but effective nevertheless.

So overall, No One Killed Jessica is Good, and has things that you would like to have in an Amit Trivedi album, but then, beyond Dilli and Aetbaar, songs aren’t that fresh, and Aali re sounds like a failure at least for now. Still, will like to see how the song turns out with the video and more listening that is going to be there. So if you have hight hopes, you may be disappointed.

My say, buy the album for Dilli, its hardcore version and Aetbaar. And you will have two songs in bonus, even if you don’t count one. Dilli is the way to go, Sir Trivedi.

Music Review: Help: New-neW Thing

Remember that sweet movie called Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar aka MP3? There was this awesome title track sung by KK and some more beautiful songs, composed by Ashu-Dhruv, Ashutosh Phatak and Dhruv Ghanekar if you explain. The two guys also worked with Kailash Kher on summertime rocks and are well known for their Blue Frog in Mumbai.

Anyway, out of this Dhruv-Ashu/Ashu-Dhruv, Dhruv Ghanekar had given music for Drona almost two years ago. And now, Ashutosh Phatak is coming with his composed album for this horror movie called Help. And I like this one. Here is a review.

The album starts with Kehna hai. And as the music plays, you know why Dhruv and Ashu are/were together, as the song starts quite similar to Teri Bandagi, the best one from Drona. Though, as you move forward into the song, the songs go on different lines. This one is sung by Joi Barua, the man who is known for his songs with Amit Trivedi, along with Suzanne D’Mello. Good one.

The second song, kyun Gum Hain Khushiyaan is a different piece. I don’t think this one is for those who love only the old typical model of Hindi movie songs, but if you welcome change, this might well be your thing. The song with a good rock base, and kind of away from the typical Mukhda-Antara thing, the song is not short and gets even repetitive inside as gum hain khushiyaan khushiyan gum hain keeps going on and on and on. But somehow it’s addictive and you grow to love it. At least I did. In love with this one. The new thing for sure.

The next song is the title track, Help, sung by Rana Majumder, a Pritam regular this time. With him comes a Barkha who is interesting to hear to. Made on the old beat model, the song has heavy beats, giving you a DJ feel but somehow this one is done pretty well and even with the typical and so-heard-type beats, the song is likable and a good hear, from the first time. Quite electronic a song, but at the end of the day, it sounds good and that is what matters.

The last thing from the album is a two minute piece called Incubated, and its the one full of rock. I’m not deep into rock but my guess is that lovers of Hard Rock will love this one, and will surely welcome this type of thing coming to Bollywood.

Overall, Help is a small, but good, and quite appreciably, new album. Must hear if you like to experiment with your music or love those who do experiment with theirs.

Best things: Kehna hai, Kyun gum hain khushiyaan.

ik udaan kab talak qaid rahegi

It’s a small one, but definitely a good one. Udaan’s Nadi mein talab has some beautiful, inspiring lyrics coming from the pen of Amitabh Bhattacharya again. Here are the lyrics of the semi-rock song sung by Amit Trivedi, Joi Barua and Neuman Pinto.

Udaan: Music Review (Amit Trivedi)

Amit Trivedi’s next is here. And since this one is him with his old group, that of Anurag Kashyap and others, things get even more interesting. Here is a music review of the album.

The first song of the album is, Aazadiyaan, the one we have been listening to, in the promos pf Udaan already on TV. But then, what we get in the promo is the end of the song, the start of the song comes a typical Amit Trivedi, though the music sounds quite like Jaane yeh kya hua of Karthik calling Karthik in the start. Lyrics of the song are really good and add to the quality of slightly rockish, good song.

Geet mein Dhalte Lafzon mein is sung by Amit and Amitabh, the composer-lyricist duo and sounds fresh. As the trend of the album builds up, one can easily see that the effect of rock can be seen pretty well on the album. Amit Trivedi seems to be having a good time with his signature rockish style of composing with added effects of soft vocals. But then, there is again those lyrics, dhool jami thi aankhon mein, khwaab khile ab laakhon mein, naya kuch naya to zaroor hai, dard ki baatein kal ki hain, aaj mein khushiyaan chhalki hai, jebon mein hum raatein liye ghooma karen, fursat ke ye mauke sabhi chooma karen. Listen to the song for those lyrics. Awesome words.

The next, aankhon ke pardon ke, or the other version of Kahani Khatm hai, is sung by Joi Barua (the Ek hulchul si guy) and Neuman Pinto. Keeps the album going in the same mood.

Mohan is someone big I don’t know. I remember the name from London Dreams where he sang Khanabadosh and this time he sings an even more awesome ‘Naav’, or Chadti Lehren Laangh na paayen. A song with Folk touch and composed by Amit Trivedi (I wonder if that is also becoming a type now) sounded really good to me even when I heard it for the first time. Go for this rock-folk.

Do we have the word Chorus anymore? I wonder the same as I read the names of the singers of Motumaster. Anyway, a masti-piece, sounding like part of college-students’-enjoyment in the context of the movie. Nothing serious here, and that is all that matters in the song.

Next in the album comes Nadi mein Talab hai, sung by Amit, Joi and Neuman, the song reminds one of Ek Hulchul si, with lyrics quite different than the mentioned. As the three sing ek udaan kab talak kaid rahegi, roko na chhod do ise, one is bound to feel the positivity of the lyrics. Good again.

The album ends with a ‘soft’ instrumental which, a bit surprisingly for me, showed no effect of rock and sounded like a heart to heart talk, after which you could let the album end and sleep peacefully. Or start again with Pairon ki bediyaan khwaabon ko baandhen nahi re…

In short, lovable album. Kinda typical stuff by Amit Trivedi, but not a thing I would call repetitive or can be disappointed with. Good music and Awesome lyrics. That makes Udaan. Go, fly.

PS: Finding the best of the song is really difficult, but I guess in terms of music ‘Naav’ is the best.
