Ek Deewana Tha: Music Review (A R Rahman) 22

we have an awesome start, an almost perfect Hosanna, a lovely Sharminda Hoon, a romantically touching zohra-jabeen, and a lot many average to above average to even good other tracks. I guess that good enough for now. Isn’t it?

Also, after taking a look at some more reviews, I think it would be better to mention that I have not heard Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya and hence the review is from the perspective of a person who has NOT heard the original album, and listening to all the tunes for the first time.

Over all album is good…but magical Hosanna can never compared with Tamil song…Vijay praksh of Tamil hosanna is much outstanding compared to hindi..Rest all songs are fantastic…ARR is back in romantic tracks after Jane tu jane na album.

  • Mohan

Many of ARR’s songs will get absorbsed only after repeated listening. The original songs also took some time to reach the top of the Chart. These songs will also become Super Hit after a week or two.

There is no meaning in comparing with tamil and telugu versions..

Tamil and Telugu are south indian languages quite similar in speaking. and far different from Hindi. Its hard to compromise with both languages. But it is turned out very well. Javed Sir did an excellent job. Those who heard tamil may not like this. But it will be a surprise for Mumbaikars..

I like the songs Hosanna , Dost Hai, Phoolon Jaisi and Sun lo zara..

worst lyrics kill the music… all i can say this album `’worst”… if it’s gulzaaar sab it will be better, cos javed akthar dsnt knw how to use rahman tunes properly….

I do not understand Tamil. But looked up at the translation of the original lyrics-too gud.Was living innaithandi Varuvaaya since 2010.Hindi versions are well not good to be true they are Cliché . Miss Blaze in Hossana, Sharminda Hoon has forced lyrics and seriously retaining a few Tamil lines here and there Omana penne,Mannipaaya Chorus part,Aromale chorus would have sounded so classy.
Again bad lyrics for Rahman after Rockstar.

I have seen vinnaithaandi varuvaaya(Tamil version) though I don’t understand Tamil. I don’t know Telugu also. But I know that Tamil and Telugu are completely different language. As far as music is concerned, no one can compare Tamil and Hindi versions of this one.

Not a single track is that good as Tamil version. Hindi “Hosanna” and “Phoolon Jaisi” is good but again not that much of Tamil. “Dost hai”, “Johra Jabin”, “Sunlo zara” are OK. Hindi “Aromale” is also fine but for a while it looks like Alphons Joseph is forced to cry.

And now about “Sharminda hoon”. “Mannipaaya” was the best track form Tamil version. No one can take place of Shreya Ghoshal. and the lyrics was so nice and lovely.

Javed Akhtar couldn’t show his magic this time. most of the places appears as they are just filled with random words.

I don’t know if others are agreed with me or not but i think i am not impressed with Hindi music because i just cannot forget magic of Tamil!!

don’t want to hurt anyone. this is my personal opinion.

Telugu album was much better in lyrics…
@shaheen ha ha ..Telugu and Tamil similar in speaking?? ask ur south indian frnds …

Arr…… d man made everything is possible and impressive. same way lik dilse was a pure hindi made film which maniratnam was never thought to dub in tamil. After the fans requistion he made it. But, eventhough the music track ws block buster in hindi. And there was a question how it will be in tamil.
But, the mozart made it possible… music track was heaven on the ears of listeners…
The same way ek deewana tha….. will do in hindi too..

The songs are really fantastic I liked them, compared to Hindi the Telugu version is better but for the same tunes its quite impossible to get the best songs rather than “EK DEEWANA THA”, nice work by the lyricist Javed Akhtar and composer ARR. I loved the songs in Hindi version too, I hope people will love to hum these songs after repeated listening as most of the ARR magical songs do…

The Tamil to Hindi Translation is bad in Sharminda Hoon n Aaromale. However Hosanna sounds good in comparison. But some of the other songs are good such as Phoolon Jaisi, Dost Hai,Sunlo Zaraa and Broken Promises. I am keen to hear the responses of the people like you who are completely unaware of VTV.
Btw I am also a part of a film website http://www.madaboutmoviez.com. DO check out the music review of ekk Deewana tha done by one of our members…Thanx

@Surya .I said this on the basis of trend. Most of the music directors in south india became successful only in south india. Yuvan , Harris Jayraj , Devi Sri Prasad etc were successful only in tamil and telugu. They might found it easy to translate or dub song to tamil/telugu. Rahman is the only exception. Many dubbed telugu songs were super hit in malayalam. In Kerala, for malayalam industry . most of the stars, singers and composers used to act in tamil , telugu and kannada. They rarely tries bollywood. The tamil actors succeeded in Bollywood are very rare..

Haven’t heard other tracks yet. Just Hosanna… But really felt disappointing. The recording is also not upto the mark. Tamil Hosanna just keeps you in a different zone altogether. For the first time felt that choice of singers gone wrong with ARR. Tamil Hosanna anytime..

  • Adnan

Those tunes naturally ,genuinely and really are tamilmalayalam….can’t be translated cleanly but can be hummed…
And this tunes was not in favorites of ar rahman….cos these tunes were composed during his crisis period….
We the fans should admit..this…don’t compare any other one with him…he is the best and most versatile music worker..in this world…we will wait for his next…and we’re already happy with all his works including many languages…..

  • umar

Hai all wait for the film release see the song with film you will understand who is rehman , we can’t compare with other music director , other music directors song can catch up in first listen bcoz the song will have the touch of any other song but in rehmna sir songs you cant say this song sounds like another so you want to listen one or more time always fresh and new , you will know after the film release
no one can give like this songs , this is an another roja

Well, after getting so endeared with the Tamil original, the hindi ones are very confusing to listen..i keep waiting for the tamil words and it kinda feels not in place.(And ya,i dont know tamil). But for most parts the soulful songs are much better in Tamil..the lyrics are in perfect sync.. unlike hindi where words are forcefully fitted to the tune..

  • Samina

@tiger and @aditya savnal I completely agree.. I too dont know tamil..but sharminda hoon is not good.. Lyrics are forced to be a part of a very good tune.. On the other hand hindi version of hosana is better one.

  • Palak

Here one another fan of Tamil Version..i too do not understand tamil or telugu…but true… tamil lyrics are good even if u dnt know tamil then also u feel it !!! i think its a magic in rehman music..the first day wen i listen hindi songs , i was like these are the lyrics??shittt… but now..i like it yar..n yes i know hindi! so..yesss…i love it!but m damn sure..pratik n Ammy will b the reason for the flop :D :D Trisha N simbu..rocks!
