Naav or chadhti lehren laangh na paayen is probably the best song of Anurag Kashyap’s next production, Udaan, which has been composed by none other than Amit Trivedi and with lyrics of Amitabh Bhattacharya. The song, sung by Mohan, has a folkish touch and has Amit’s signature rock mood too. And somehow, I agree with my friend Dunkdaft who says the song reminds him of SD Burman too. Anyway, the song has some real good singing with some superb music but it’s the lyrics that I’m loving the most, so here are the lyrics of the song, as best as I could hear them.

chadhti lehren laangh na paayen kyun haanpti si naav hai teri naav hai teri
tinka tinka jod ke saanse kyun haanpti si naav hai teri naav hai teri
ulti behti dhaar hai bairi dhaar hai bairi
ulti behti dhaar hai bairi dhaar hai bairi
ke ab kuch kar ja re panthi..

jigar juta kya baat baandh le hai baat thehri jaan pe teri jaan pe teri
Haiya Ho Ki Taan Saath Le Jo Baat Tehri Jaan Pe Teri Shaan Pe Teri

Chal Jeet Jeet Lehra Parcham tu laal Phehra Ja
Ab Kar Ja Tu Ya Mar Ja Karle Taiyari
Udja Banke Dhoop Ka Panchi chura ke gehri chhaon Andheri Chaao Andheri
Tinka Tinka Joodle Saase Kyun Haanphti Si Naav Hai Teri

Rakh Dega JhakJhor ke tujhe
Tufano Ka Ghor Hai Dera Ghor Hai Dera
Bhanwar Se dar Jo Haar Maan Le
Kaheka Phir Jor Hai Tera Jor Hai Tera

Hai Dil Mei Roshni Tere
Tu Cheer Daal Sab Ghere
Lehron Ki Gardan Kas Ke
Daal Phande Re

Ki Dariyan Bole waaha Re Panthi
Saar Ankhon Pe Naav Hai Teri Naav Hai Teri
Chadti Lehren Laangh Na Paaye
Kyun Hanpti Si Naav Hai Teri Naav Hai Teri

Ulti Behti Dhaar Hai Bairi Dhaar Hai Bairi
Ulti Behti Dhaar Hai Bairi Dhaar Hai Bairi
Ke Ab Kuch Kar Ja Re panthi..

Thanks for the lyrics, was looking for since I’ve heard it. This Amit & Amit duo has one more winner in their hand… :)

Btw, I think the two lines of 4th paragraph should be:

    Rakh Dega JhakJhor ke “Tujhe”
Tufano Ka Ghor Hai Dera Ghor Hai Dera
Bhanwar Se “Dar” Jo Haar Maan Le
Kaheka Phir Jor Hai Tera Jor Hai Tera

Not too sure, but to my ears it sounded so… just my two cents. :)

  2. akshay says:

Yup the two words Avik said is actually correct

  3. Harshit says:

    @Avik @akshay

Thanks a lot. I dunno how I wrote tujhe wrong, but dar n gar had anyway got mixed up. Whatever it was, heard it again n corrected them both.

    Thanks again. :)

  4. Labrez says:

its not haafti……its hanpti….just for your information.

I am totally addicted to this song……awesome composition.I love the piano in the interlude.

  5. Rushi says:

Ke ab kuch kar ja re Bandhu and not panthi in the first stanza..

  6. Harshit says:

    @Rushi

I tried a lot to get that word cleared n always thought of Bandhu as an option too, but I heard it Panthi. So here I put that.

  7. Rushi says:

Its Panthi in some places, too. I’ve followed every song of this singer. So maybe I know his pronunciations better. :P

Btw, he sings for Agnee. One of my favorite bands. I’ve been following happysing closely and its a safe suggestion that you try all songs by Agnee. You’ll surely like them. :)

  8. Noopur says:

i think its “naapti” and not “haanpti” in the second line….

  9. utk says:

Another minor correction….Chal Jeet Jeet Lehra “Ja” Parcham tu laal Phehra Ja

And its truly an awesome song!

As a suggestion, you could try and write the lyrics in hindi (try google transliteration)…at least for deep meaning ones like this song. Will be more impactful and meaningful. Songs like these remind us how beautiful, powerful and inspirational our mother toungue can be :)

  10. Harshit says:

    @Noopur

heard again. don’t think so. Thanks anyway. :)

  11. IOPAH says:

  12. Harshit says:

  13. Dron says:

and ya everyone should give agnee a listen…those guys r real good.

  14. Him says:

Great song.. But I think in 12th line it is.. Jigar juta kya baat bandh le hai baat thehri jaan pe teri “Shaan” pe teri..
And also its “Bandhu” not “Panthi” in 11th line…

  15. jiten says:

I guess its, Jigar juta ke Pal bandh le, hai baat thehri jaan pe teri jaan pe teri…

  16. Giri says:

    Thanks a lot…

  17. Rashid says:

I love this song as much as I love my agony for life. Great Job done by both the Amit and Mohan. Amazing song, Amazing Lyrics, Amazing Meaning, Amazing Music and Of course an Amazing Movie. I’ve seen it thrice in a day and this song is my callertune now. Three Cheers for this Song for its Victory and its Prestige…..Awesome!!!!

  18. Mayoor says:

After a longtime iv heard good hindi song. Jus lov this.

  19. Mayoor says:

It remind be of Bob Dylan or one of the Folk Rock Songs..

  20. Abishek says:

well the meaning that the lyricist is trying to convey is clear, but the poetry is poor -severly lacking in vocabulary with inconsistent imagery and random linkages, just learn some proper urdu or hindi and listen to a poet of repute and you will know the truth about the likes of joshis and bhattacharyas etc..so called lyric writers.

  21. Harshit says:

    @Abishek

Compare. Compare with Bashir Badr, Wasim Barelvi, or simply Mirza Ghalib and keep sulking for life. Or compare with Govinda age, and enjoy the positive change. The choice is completely yours.

  22. Pratik says:

    Hey Harshit,
Nice compilation. I read the comments and I am sure that you might have been in a lot of lyrics problem while penning it down. :)

Super song anytime but one drawback that lyrics aren’t clear at many places. Maybe these guys should work on this. RD Burman was way ahead. Way to go now.

Btw I also manage a lyrics blog but thats completely in Hindi because I feel that hindi songs can’t be best read in english (it’s a funny language has been correctly said :) )!!

You can visit my blog @ Lyrics in Hindi – ?????? ?? ??? and put in your thoughts.

    Cheers!

  23. Mohit says:

    Hey guys,
You guys really seem to know your hindi (and urdu). I am trying to get into hindi and urdu poetry and would like some suggestions to go about it. As I have lived outside of India for all my life, my Hindi is strictly of the level of a casual speaker, which, I understand, will make it harder for me to appreciate these poems. But I heard the poems in Udaan, and got goosebumps. Can you guys suggest some poets who have similar kind of poems (that are written in more-or-less simple Hindi), or how to go about learning to appreciate the works by other well-known Indian poets (both in Hindi and Urdu)?
    I would appreciate it immensely.

  24. amit says:

a wonderful song with meaningful lyrics

  25. Anonymous says:

  27. vishu says:

its tinka tinka jod ke saanse kyun naapti(measure) and not hanpti in second line.

  28. Sunil Jhurani says:

    @ Abhishek

  29. nirajan says:

  30. Lohit says:
