Frankly, I don’t think I am good enough to review an album that consists of only Asha Bhosle, Roop Kumar Rathod and Hariharan only. So you may consider this one as just my opinion about the album. The album is composed by Sudeep Bannerjee and lyrics are written by Jai Shankar Mishra.
The first song of the album is Tum Yahin Saath Mein sung by Asha Bhosle and Roop Kumar Rathod. The song goes at a Ghazal-slow speed and has Hindi words that are limited to text books only. But the music of the song is soulful and melodious and I need not tell how these masters of singing would have sung it. You’ll love the song if you like slow, soft, melodious music.
Man Bahut Anmana, phir udaasi wahi is the next song of the album, sung by Hariharan alone. The song is equally slow and the lyrics have a number of Hindi words that would be considered tough by many. The song might not sound as good to you but as you hear it more, you know it’s going to last really long.
Tum Paras ho is the third song of the album, sung by Roop again. The song is a long one, crossing 7 minutes and has a attractive start as Roop sings tum paras ho tum chandan ho tum harsingar rajnigandha. By the way, the song reminds me of Chandan sa Badan. Now is that because of the word chandan alone, or because of some Raag similarity (don’t know about that one) or just because I’m watching Saraswatichandra nowadays, is not clear to me. Any help with that will be welcome.
The next song, Aaj phir tum hame yaad aane lage, is sung by Asha Bhosle. The song is slow in speed again, but the lyrics of the song are not that much of a Hindi purist and sound like that from some old Hindi movie of ’60s-’70s. Falling for the song in the first listening itself.
Chand ke saath, the title song of the album, is sung by Roop Kumar Rathod and sounds more ‘interesting’ than any of the songs that have come yet as the song’s rhythm has more pace compared to previous songs. Though the song suddenly sounds too fast after listening to the preceding songs, the song sets itself and you fall in love with the restraints in the song. Lovable song, overall, though I wonder how would it sound had it been a bit slower.
Swapn se Saanidhya mera, sung by Hariharan is something that, with some changes, could pass for a song of a Yash Chopra directed movie had the lyrics not been that typical Hindi. The lyrics go swapn se saanidhya mera, swapn se abhisaar mera. I wonder how many people know what is Saanidhya and Abhisaar. Quite rare words, though saanidhya is still common in wedding cards. Anyway, if you listen to the seven and a half minute long song carefully, you’ll get to know that the song is living your dreams.
Vedna Sangini. Asha Bhosle. Loving it. The song is a tough piece of lyrics and music and it’s worth listening to how Asha Bhosle sings this one wonderfully even at this age. Listen to the song simply for Ashaji and her singing.
Aao chalen bhraman kar aayen is Roop Kumar Rathod rendering about the Hindi calendar months and how India feels in all those months and the seasons they bring with them. The song is simply some soft, soulful romance with the land we live on.
The last track of the album, Preet ki Saugat, is a poem rendered by the lyricist Jai Shankar Mishra. The poem is a romance with nature as the poet asks if there is another world beyond the horizon (kya kshitij paar bhi koi sansaar hai).
Overall, Chand ke Saath has some slow, soulful and long lasting song, and even though it has a lot of tough Hindi words, I won’t call the album purist as I liked the songs though I am all into Bollywood music and hardly anything else. Go for the album if you’re searching for some long lasting melody. Hope you’ll like it, love it.

Yeah , great reviews , I have listened to the dongs over 100 times and am still awed everytime a listen again………… Kudos to Chand ke Saath
I just bought the album in Ahmedabad and am loving it.
The music touched my soul and stirred a part of me
that I had almost forgotten about. The words are very pure
and have great resonance. Overall, a great treat for the soul.
Go ahead – indulge.
In today’s era of hip hop’s & remixes it is good to hear pure hindi lyrics. It feels great to know that some people are still writing beautifully in hindi and mastero’s like Asha Bhosle, Roop Kumar Rathod and Hariharan are inclined towards singing them!
I guess after Dushyant Kumar’s “ho gayi hai peer parvat si pighalni chaahiye” which was very beautifully written in Hindi & was used in the talked about movie “Halla Bol”, songs from “Chand ke Saath” are equally capable of making their place in the hearts & minds of its listener’s…
Lyricist Sh. Jai Shankar Mishra has written exceptionally beautiful lyrics!!!
@PD
Hi Prateek,
Liked ur liking of lyrics. Talking of Halla Bol, Dushyant Kumar was actually a POET, whose Poem itself has been used as lyrics there, while Jai Shankar Mishra’s lyrics have been written specifically for the album.
The point being that, while I praise the producer of Halla Bol for using those lyrics in the movie (while not praising him for making a good movie at the same time), I would praise Mishra for giving such good lyrics in these times.
Don’t ask about praising Dushyant Kumar. He was a legend. No more words for him.
Hi Harshit,
Excellent reviews and kudos to your encouragement for the album. I want to add the Shri JS Mishra is also a poet and his books have been published and very well recieved and appreciated like Yeh Dhoop Chaaon Yeh Aakarshan, Ho Himalaya Naya Ab Ho Ganga Nayi. Baah Kholo Udo Mukt Aakaash Mein. However by profession he is an IAS officer of UP Cadre. Anyways still loving the songs ……..
