Rekha Bharadwaj is one great talent. And the best part is that she gets to sing Gulzar’s words on Vishal’s tunes. And while many singers might have reasons to be jealous, she keeps on proving her talent again and again. Ab mujhe koi intezar kahan is one such instance. The song is a great one by Gulzar and has been sung as deeply by Rekha. A slow, soft, deep song you’d love to listen to.

Lyrics

Ab mujhe koi intezaar kahan
Ab mujhe koi intezaar kahan
Wo jo behte the aabshaar kahan
Ab mujhe koi intezaar kahan
Ab mujhe koi intezaar kahan
Wo jo behte the aabshar kahan
Ab mujhe koi intezaar kahan

Aankh ke ek gaon mein, raat ko khwaab aate the
Aankh ke ek gaon mein, raat ko khwaab aate the
Chhoone se behte the, bole to kehte the
Udte khwaabon ka aitbaar kahan
Udte khwaabon ka aitbaar kahan
Ab mujhe koi intezaar kahan

Jin dino aap the, aankh mein dhoop thi
Jin dino aap rehte the, aankh mein dhoop rehti thi
Ab to jaale hi jaale hain, ve bhi jaane wale hain
Woh jo tha dard ka qaraar kahan
Woh jo tha dard ka qaraar kahan
Ab mujhe koi intezaar kahan
Woh jo behte the abshaar kahan
Ab mujhe koi intezaar kahan

Meanings

  3. kamonasish aayush mazumdar says:

Gulzar and Vishal Bharadwaj don’t do anything extra ordinary. they just understand that WORDS should have their rightful value in a song.

    creating mindless music doesn’t work
    creating mindless words doesn’t work

its only when both are intertwined when you get beautiful music taht you want to listen again and again :)

in an era of software manipulation and template style music, these guys break that trend. may be because these guy’s don’t write for factories or don’t have assembly style music manufacturing drive that makes their music so enjoyable.

write music because you have a reason and let that music not be just money. how difficult is this to get? i guess, for Bollywood, incredibly difficult. So difficult that they rather copy paste from around the world then write about they feel.

    @7th Sense (Mazumdar)
I was so impressed with your comment that I searched u on the net. Indeed, your words are true. Wish more n more composers would do that, n we could have more real music. Thanks for the visit and the comment.

  6. Aneesh says:

Indeed she is a great singer, one of a kind, the only thing I dont like about her is her occasional mis-pronunciations like “etbaar” for “aitbaar” in this song.

  7. Richie says:

Can someone please post the English translation of the song?

this is a very crude translation of the song, will work on it later.

i dont wait for anything any longer
i dont wait for anything any longer
the waterfalls (of tears) which used to be there are no longer

In the village of eyes, dreams used to come at nights,
which flow when touched, which spoke when spoken to
but how can one trust inconstant dreams
i dont wait for anything any longer

the days when you were here, my eyes had sunshine
now there are cobwebs everywhere and even they are going to go obsolete
the catharsis after pain that used to be there is no longer
i dont wait for anything any longer

i dont wait for anything any longer
i dont wait for anything any longer
the waterfalls which used to be there are no longer

guljar saab ke ek ek lafz rekha ne sidhe dil ki ghenraiyo mein utar diye hai….GOOD WORK !

  10. Ananya says:

Hey Aneesh, I just wanted to tell you that the correct pronounciation for the word Aitbaar is Etbaar..it has been corrected number of times by javed ahtar sahab, ghulzar sahab and shabana ji..In urdu its pronounced Etbaar, but our dear bollywood has muddled the water a bit :) ..

    Just this..enjoy

  11. Ananya says:

Oh another thing, it should be “raat ke ek gaah mein not gaon mein”..Gaah as in a corner, a space..

the line is more profound than it sounds :)

  12. Piyush says:

This Gazhal is just amazing. Hats off to Guljar, Rekha, and Vishal for presenting such a soul touching song/Ghazal. Wow…this is just amazing stuff.

  13. Harshit says:

    @Piyush
I’m not an expert at that, but most probably it’s not a ghazal. But yes, it is amazing stuff. Indeed. :)
