Is it really going to affect you what I write here about the movie? Well, if it doesn’t and you think Himesh Reshammiya cannot be any good, this is the end of the review. But if you still think there is a chance, here I go.

The last movie I had seen in a cinema hall was De Dana Dan. And though De Dana Dan came from a master filmmaker, I think this attempt of novices which is called Radio – Love on Air, was better than De Dana Dan and I would give them both at least equal stars. My reason: It was fresh. Additional, could be Reason: I had expected a big fat zero from Radio, as I had gone to see an experiment and not a movie.

When I entered the theater with two friends, the count inside went up to nineteen. The movie started pretty badly and Shenaz looked a flop in the get up of a clown. But as the story proceeded, things sort of settled and since the songs were good and made to fit into the movie in quite an okay manner, the movie was bearable. And then, there were some scenes in the movie which actually look real, which was a bonus.

Isshaan Trivedi’s direction has freshness in it, but things get confusing at times and that leaves much scope for improvement. The cinematography is good and the uncredited for (or unfound) background music was good in some places while too old in some others.

And now I come to the main topic. Himesh Reshammiya. Well, Himesh has certainly gone ahead of Aap ka Suroor and Karzzz. In fact if not with this movie, I hope he’ll be a Jack of Many Trades by his next, Pooja Bhatt directed Kajraare. While he has been wonderful in his singing this time, balancing his voice a lot between his mouth and nose, he has been OKAY with acting and though in many scenes he overacted, in some scenes he was appreciable too. But the better part than his acting was his voice over and he narrated the movie really good. Better than expected.

Also, he gave some rare sights in the movie. You could see Himesh Reshammiya smiling and talking softly, slowly too. ;-)

Shenaz has been as good as her role has permitted. I think she has scope of being more than showpiece. Sonal Sehgal doesn’t get enough role to decide if she can do any better. Paresh Rawal is good but the language given to him doesn’t suit him a lot. On that note, the language of the movie becomes over the top in many places in a try to make it cool and hip.

To summarize, I’d say that if you loved the songs of Radio, are willing to experiment, and are not afraid of being laughed at by people around you, you can try the movie. You may like it better than some films you expected a lot from.

Or else, just wait for the movie to come on DVD or TV, and then you can watch it. And hope Himesh Bhai improves as much in his next movie too, because then, it will be really good. Yes, he has scope.
