“I’ve started respecting Himesh Reshammiya. People said he had voice of an ass and he changed it. People said he can’t act and now he’s acted too.”
This was the first input I got on Radio.
No. Do not expect Radio to be a wonderful 4-5 star or even a 3-star rated movie, but Himesh Reshammiya HAS ACTED even according to the critics who give him a one and half star.
So my guess is that the huge fan following of Himesh Reshammiya (never mind if you’re not one of them, there is Very less chance of you being one if you’re reading this blog, even less of admitting) + people hit by curiousity should be enough to make the movie a hit.
The good part about the movie is the songs. The bad parts seem to be the overload of Mann ka Radio and much, much more, including acting.
But still when movie reviewers ask you to watch out for the DVD of a movie, they make you more curious despite their negative critical opinion. Such things may help the movie in the urban areas where people read reviews. My guess is that small towns/rural areas are anyways going to give a thumbs up to Himesh Reshammiya on Radio.
If you still have doubt, watch the collections of Aap ka Suroor.
